No-work work fail / 2017
Printed A4 copy paper taped to gallery wall, recorded message on an answering service.
Rm Gallery, Auckland
In No-Work Work Fail I attempt to reconcile the absence of art making in the postpartum period with the desire to remain working. Rather than withdraw from exhibiting with ‘nothing to show’ I offers my experience of working on not-working to the audience. In the recording you can hear sounds of my young child as I describe the conceptual process of not-working. The installation of No-Work Work Fail, a simple A4 printed sheet taped to the gallery wall, was influenced by the limitations on time and travel of new motherhood.
To experience the work fully it is necessary to ring the number 0800 NO WORK (669 675) and listen to the recording.
